Few, very few, have given voice to America's obligation "spiritually, morally, and economically" to rise up to fulfill our God-given rendezvous with destiny. Ronald Reagan drew upon such lessons from history as Israel's freedom from the slavery of Egypt, the Christ who did not refuse the cross in order to set us free, the patriots who fired the shot heard round the world at the North Bridge in the first Revolutionary Battle at Lexington and Concord, and our advance against the Nazi regime. Let us be attentive in these days to the principle that our CAUSE must precede our CONFLICT. Let the noble voice of proven leaders rally us to the cause that is greater than ourselves, as Francis Scott Key in the war of 1812 so ably penned after witnessing the bombardment of Fort McHenry by British ships:
O thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand Between their loved homes and the war's desolation. Blest with vict'ry and peace, may the Heav'n rescued land Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation! Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just, And this be our motto: 'In God is our trust.' And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!
May the Lord restore our vision of the goodness of America that flows from our trust in Him and extends His intended blessing to us and through us for the glory of God and for the proclamation of His " saving health among all nations" (Psalm 67:2).
